    I tried to mount a 1TB 2,5" Toshiba MK1059GSM HDD to my old 60GB PS3.

It doesn't fit, because it has a hight of aprox. 12.5mm.

If i measure the space, the max hight for a HDD might be 10.5mm.

Most of the 2,5" 640GB HDD's have 9.5mm, so they fit.

About the 2,5" 750GB, i couldn't find any info, same for the other 1TB HDD's,
but i guess that they are still to big.

    Hope the info was helpfull.

    Thanks for the information,
at least there is a slim 750GB.
Hope they also will be able to manufacture a 1TB with less then 11mm soon.

Just make sure you get the right 750GB drive because the original one was 12.5mm in hight.

I grabbed one of those toshiba 1tb drives the other day from newegg. Doesnt fit the normal way but if you open the ps3 (phat) and remove the top part of the hard drive bay (the cage is 2 parts, top and bottom), it will fit perfectly. Keep in mind that you must install the drive/caddy through the top as it wont slide in through the hole in the side of the case. Worked like a charm for me. Only complaint was the formatted capacity was 829GB I think. Was expecting 931GB.

Here are a couple of pics. It fits perfectly as long as you remove that top plate (I included a picture of the one you must remove).

Here's a shot of the sys info showing the drive capacity. After installing the drive it will show 829GB available / 931GB total. Wonder if anyone can explain where those 102GB disappeared to.

cool thanks for the info so that metal bracket plate in the 3rd pic is the one that needs to be removed correct? can you put back the two cover plates back on? or do you run it open like that?

also that 102 is probably for your OS/saved game data/settings ect...
