I know this is a known problem but was hoping someone figured out a solution. I had about 6 gigs free on my internal drive, and needed space for something else so I deleted a 10 gig mkv file in Multiman's file manager. The file's gone, but it still says I only have 6 gigs free. Has anyone figured out how to force the ps3 to rescan the hard drive to get the correct free space reading?

You could try FS Recovery from recovery menu.

Otherwise, try to play around with Fake HDD space in QA menu. Activate it, reboot, then deactivate and reboot again. This is just suggestions, since I've never faced any issues like this one. Good luck anyway.

Don't know about that above solution, if you try it and it works post the result.

In my experience this is a chronic problem and can only be solved by reformatting the drive (which I've had to do twice since jb-ing my console).

It is a major pain in the ass!

I wouldn't mind just reformatting, but I don't have enough space elsewhere to backup 1 TB of data and a lot of it has been lost due to file servers going down. I've tried moving stuff around in the file manager to trigger multiman to rescan for content with no luck. I've tried Rebuilding the database in the system recovery menu with no luck. I'm playing around with it and will let you guys know. 10 gigs is 10 gigs and I'm sure that this is not the first time it's happened - just the first time I noticed since it's so close to the end of my free space. There's no telling how much free space is actually lost

You hit it on the head. Thanks man. What I did is turned on Fake HDD space in the debug menu, then turned my ps3 off then back on. Just to verify I checked the size of everything on my internal drive. The file I deleted was in my VIDEO folder. It was the only one and shows as being an empty folder. Here's the math if anyone's interested

I have a 1 TB hard drive which after formatting and installing custom firmware only gives me 827 Gigs of useable space (10% is reserved for system use)

    CURRENT SIZE OF FOLDERS
    2068
    459815255651
    328321970960
    440679290
    20659682
    691124166
    38184000028
    262144
    1094579170
    16087328
    920575726
    503316480
    1208266
    62186

current free space (not exact - did a bit calculator conversion of 53.15 gigs)
    57069377945.6

grand total or 826.156848194636 GIGs (not exact but close enough - look above)
    887079161090.6

    Really appreciate the tip

No, I've never dropped it and it's never been hit by anything. It's a relatively new drive and I was extremely careful installing it. It's a known problem with multiMAN's file manager. What happened is I deleted the file itself instead of deleting the folder the file was in. For some reason multiMAN doesn't report the change correctly. If you look above the problem's been fixed

Hi, I'm having this same problem on my Kmeaw 3.55 Slim, but can't for the life of me find the debug/QA menu you guys are talking about to play around with this Free HDD space setting. Sorry, I'm a pretty big newbie, but I would really appreciate some help. Thanks in advance.

Edit: I also did Google this in advance, as well as searched the forums, but had no luck.

Finally someone having this same problem... well i think this is normal but, is it a multiman problem or a CFW problem?
Since i formatted i always delete the files form the FTP client and i dont have any space errors, but deleting from multiman is when you dont get it really deleted...
This problem is there for years, why noone fix this? I don't want it to happen again when deleting something accidentally from multiman :S

And about the Fake Disk fix, how does it really works? Do you need to know the exact fisk space you lost do fake it or it autodetects it?
