This is my first post and after many hours of research, disassembly, and reassembly; I have finally broke down and will start a thread. I'm sure its out there somewhere, but I'm tired of looking. So here it is:

I picked up this old Phat CECHH01 40 Gig from a friend for free. He said that it just needed a new blue ray laser. I eventually ordered the correct one and installed it. After accidentally dismantling the transmission gears for the Blue Ray Drive and putting them back, I got it running. The issue remained the same. The XMB would recognize the game and even load the skin for it after inserting the disc. When I would attempt to play the game it would act like it was loading. Shortly thereafter (say less than a minute) the original XMB would start back up and then load the skin. . .

After some research I discovered the safe-mode start-up and did all of them. Nothing changed.

After removing the hard drive and reformatting it completely I installed the newest update via usb stick. Nothing changed.

Once again I went back to the safe mode and chose option 3 "Restore File System". . . It once again explained to me that it had corrupt files and it would soon be "fixing" them. . .

With one game (Fallout 3, it would post error code: 80010017)

    In a nutshell I:

    1. Replaced Blue-Ray
    2. Ran Safe-Mode options 3,4,5, & 6
    3. Removed HDD, reformatted it in (FAT)
    4. Slammed head into wall.

There might be a clue in that error code you listed. It means that the eboot isn't signed properly for whatever firmware you're on. Are you on legit or custom firmware? And which one?

For just replacing the laser? I gotta admit his post is confusing. First he says he just replaced the laser, then later he says he replaced the drive. He doesn't say what firmware he's using too so unless he comes up with some more info then not much anybody can do to help him

if his drive wasnt married, it wouldnt even show the disc icon/skin. the clock would spin and it eventually would stop without showing the game.
sounds liek he has authentication issues on the latest OFW. kinda bleek tho until he says if hes on OFW or CFW. could also be a logic board on its way out.

    good topic title tho

Also, What I meant to say Bahumatlord was that I switched the Blue-ray laser. I didn't change anything else on the blue-ray drive. After trying all the safe-mode options, I reformatted the Hard Drive in Linux to FAT. Once I realized that nothing changed, I tried to "Restore the File Systems" again. . . Still the console would tell me that files were corrupted and it would be "fixing" them. . . It didn't fix them.

Is firmware the same as the system software?
Should I be concerned that the HDD reformatted in a matter of seconds, and the restore file systems only took a matter of seconds?
    What is re-marrying?

Thanks for all the help guys.

if its on 4.31 update it to 3.55 incase its a problem with the firmware other than that the only thing i can think of is you replaced the laser incorrectly or there is a different problem with the drive or ps3
