How to play PS2 games on ps3 Launch model
If it's really a 60Gb and not just a drive swap (it should have 4xUSB and a card reader) then it already plays retail PS2 games, just put on in and go.
yes it is the one with card readers and 4 usb ports,
uuuuhm ive got my personal backups so copies of my originals will those play ? if they do do i just pop them in or....??
Ahh right, backups. They don't run yet, not even on a jailbroken PS3.
nooooooo!!! i had such beautifull dreams :P well looks like ill need to find an ps2 wich can some1 near the netherlands here who can sell me 1 ?
Actually, you can play backups on that machine, unjailbreaked, but it's messy, involves opening the case and the bluray drive and there's a good chance of scratching your originals and/or backups if you're too impatient to wait the ~20 mins for the disc to stop spinning.

.... Seriously people, opening the machine? WHY?
PS2 backups work perfectly on the PS3. Check the top of this very page, or any page on this site, for Open PS2 Loader. It's easy to use and QUICK too, as long as you have a USB thumbstick or HDD that is compatible with SwapMagic.
Official OPLv0.8 User Guides
All you need is a USB drive, a copy of Swap Magic 3.6/3.8 Coder, and a PS3 with PS2 compatibility. Have fun!

Unfortunately you'll need one of the following:
A Fat PS2 with a Network Adapter and a Hard Drive
A older Slim PS2 and the ability to solder an IDE Cable to small contact points on the PS2 Motherboard
Any PS2 with a modchip and lots of discs.
Otherwise, you might as well give up on playing you "backups".
thnx peeps nice info ! now all i got to do is get off my lazy ass and get it working :P
