Help needed in boot process h/w issue?
I have nasty h/w problem on my 60gb fat 3.50 ofw that is proving very hard to resolve.
When it is stone cold the ps3 will boot as normal to the xmb and all works fine albeit the fan does ramp up after a while.
However, if then turned off (soft or hard) it won't turn on again until it is stone cold ie 3 or 4 hours later.
Its definately something getting warmish and disconnecting or failing like a bad solder joint.
When turned on warm the green light comes on
The hdd light comes on for about 2 seconds then goes off as normal
But then it just doesnt continue booting - light stays green steady but no more hdd light - no video - no controller sync
When in the fault condition it wont go into the recovery menu.
It makes the right noises ie single beep and double beep but again no video and no controller sync.
It will go into factory service mode in so much that it does turn off after using my dongle but still doesnt boot to the xmb.
Ive tried a new hard drive - no difference
Used factory service mode to downgade to 3.41(3.56) successfully but still has same fault.
Tried reflowing the RSX, CEL, and bus controllers - no difference.
The strange thing is when it does boot it will stay running indefinately but if I turn on then off then on again from cold it wont boot the second time.
Its as though whatevers failing doesnt affect the PS3 wile its running but will stop it from booting.
If you observe the hdd light on a successful boot after switch on the hdd light comes on for about 2 secs goes off for about a second then starts flashing while booting to the xmb.
When mine turns on in its fault mode the hdd light comes on for two secs turns off but never comes on again.
Sorry for the length of this but can anyone suggest where this is hanging in the boot process or suggest another area I can reflow?
