Still looks like the hard drive mate. Have you tried a completely different drive?
I`m 80% confident that if you tried a completely (known good) drive, it might be ok.
A low level format may help initially but hard drives don`t get better, they get worse.
Try any other drive and report back mate.
I have tried another HD; 60gb. Same error. I've tried a different firmware (downgrade to 3.41) which has been posted on this site which has worked! PS3 is alive again!
I did however from the XMA try to install the 3.55CFW Blu ray bypass, what happened is that it read it fine from USB stick, saved to HDD, restarted and then said it was corrupted. Rebooted itself back to 3.41.
Is there any differences between 3.41 and 3.55 that's worth trying to upgrade?
Thanks you for your help
If you downgraded from 3.55 to 3.41, you're probably on the modified 3.41 (3.5_6). You should downgrade again to 3.41 OFW and then try one of those other firmwares if you're still interested.
Wouldn't installing OFW of 3.41 put me into the update loop as I don't have a Blu ray device?
