Help Dead Bluray but not drive
Help Dead Bluray but not drive –
06-04-2011,09:03 AM
Hi all
Have lurked around for a while now and have found the site quite informative.
My problem is I have a 40g cechg that the bluray has stopped working, doesn't take disks in, no blue light on console.
I have swapped drives, ribbon cable (mainboard connector is okay) and power cables and supplies still nothing I have voltage going to drive but its not working.
The drive works in another console I have.
Is there something on the mainboard that I might turn my attention to or do I throw it in a cupboard until homebrew can run with out the bluray drive.
Thank you for your time.
Regards
Andrew

When you swapped drives, you left the br logic board that is paired? Or tried a different logic board and got same problem of no blue light, etc.? If you tried a different logic board with the different drive and still no response from the blue led, then it is something on the mainboard - I have discovered firsthand that an unpaired blu - ray will do just about everything except actually load the durn thing on the xmb, but it still registers on the blue led and intakes discs.
But if its the only the original one that came paired with the mobo which exhibits this behavior, then it sounds like the logic board has gone south. You may be able to repair by either replacing the drive IC on the board, or buying an altogether new board (thegamersfix.com sells em for about 10 bucks and you can find just the IC on ebay for 5-7) and swapping the nand chip with your original. Both solutions require some rather delicate soldering and/or some patience and a steady hand unless you are on a FW which can be downgraded. If so, then there is another alternative : you can remarry the new board in its entirety to the mobo but first you have to enter the factory service mode which requires a jailbreak device of some sort to downgrade firmware in order to accomplish this. (Check out the thread about re-marrying drives to new consoles for more info on that. I just took the crash course myself so I am not an authority on that process at all.)

Thanks for that but I have tried every combo I could think of new drive completely and just swapping the logic board.
What I'm trying to find out if there is a specific point to start looking or just have at it and check everything.
Thanks for the reply.
