I just got my first PS3, been doing a little research, just want to confirm if I am correct and what options I have...

The video connect on the back of the system is specific to PS3 and not an HDMI connection, correct? My TV is HD but for some reason does NOT have a HDMI port, just RCA and component. What are my options to view my PS3 in HD? I bought a HDMI to RCA cable on eBay, but now that I know the connection on the PS3 isn't an HDMI plug I don't think it will do me much good, correct? Do I have any other options or is my only option buying a TV with an HDMI port?

My slim have both HDMI and normal playstation output connector... so can't say...

But you could connect with an HDMI to component cable if your tv have RGB input...

there is an hdmi port and a proprietary port on the back of the ps3. You should have recieved the proprietary cable one with your ps3 that outputs to RCA. You can purchase one that outputs to component. The hdmi port is a standard hdmi port that outputs audio/video.

    This statement is a failure.

Buy an Component cable for Playstation 2 or 3. Nothing else. Your image will be very good at 720p (HD).

There is no need for converters or adapters. PS3 natively supports analog component output on HD resolutions.

First off, you need to get a set of playstation component cables. People will swear by official sony cables or monster cables but it doesn't really matter.
You need to check on what resolutions your tv supports. I had one that did not have hdmi, (but it did have dvi), and it supported 1080i and 720p. Many tvs prior did not support 720p over component. Your tv could possibly support 1080p over component. I was also able to attach an adapter to the dvi and connect it to a hdmi switch which worked just as well if you can go that route.

    Indeed, does REALLY matter...

Ive tested every component cable available in the world(not every, just the knowed marks) and i found that THE BEST WAY to watch PS2/PS3 in an "non HDMI tv set" is the ORIGINAL FROM SONY. NO CHOISE.

Its quality is by far at the top of this category.

Trust me, i tested this things for months IN VARIOUS TV SETS, the original hasnt rival.
In PS3 AND tv set activate options to correct gamma and others settings and youll enjoy your tv set at MAXIMUM (no "noise" nor artifacts).

    SALUDOS!!!
