My question. My ps3 HDMI output stopped working like a year ago, so i started to playing games through the component cable. All went well 'till a couple of days ago. Suddenly there's no video coming out of the hdmi port and out of component cables. I am getting video from the original a/v cables, but i cannot play at 720p or 1080p res. Before i decide to send the unit to Sony, anyone have a suggestion? I was wondering if the GPU is fried. But if it is fried, why am i getting video from the original a/v cables? I have tried different cables (hdmi and component) but no go. I have the original 60gb unit.

Have you done the video reset.
    Turn the Ps3 off
Only have one cable plugged in, HDMI, AV etc
Press & hold the power button until you hear another beep (one when you first press power, then wait for the second)

    Wait 10-20 seconds

Yep. Done that. No results. I still wonder why the original a/v cables work and the component cables don't.

It would have to be the IC on the MB that is losing contact would be my only thought.

Have you checked with another set of component leads?

Yep. Done that too. In fact, I have purchased two different sets to check it.

Safe to assume the first then.
I have seen them with no video output at all without being YLOD.
The IC that controls video output would be divided into sections for the HDMI, component and av.
All inbound would be OK since there is only one video source.
But if the section that controls any of the outputs dies, it would do what you have.

You would need to replace a BGA chip.
Not something you even want to attempt without the correct equipment.
Mine cost around $2.5k AU as a guide.

Hey Mark, can you specify which BGA chip? Again, I have the original 60 gb unit. I do intend to change the chip but I need to know which. Again, thanx a lot for your help.
