HDD Upgrade Questions

I plan on upgrading my 3.41 Slim 160 PS3 with a 500GB HDD and had a few questions.

Will I need to update to 3.55 after I install the drive? I've been reading that you have to update the software after you install the drive. Anyways I was planning of using This One

Can I backup my game backups? I have about 5 or 6 games already on my internal HDD I would want to move to the 500. One of the games is 40+gb's (UFC 2010) and the external I thought had to be NTFS with a max of 32GB per partition. Anyways thanks for your help.

Whoever told you that you need to update your firmware after upgrading the hard drive lied to you. You don't need to do anything to the firmware when upgrading the hard drive.
If you create a full backup on your PS3, it will backup everything, including games that you have backed up to dev_hd0. Format your external to FAT32 so that your PS3 reads it and then from there you can make the backup.

Wow great! Reading older articles/threads stated there was a problem with updating to the newest software after a new HDD was installed. Thanks for the help
