i started using my ps3 again after not using it for a year. i was on 3.55 CFW. i updated to rogero 4.30 and everything worked fine. i even was able to get some games to work that didn't before. one of them was GTA IV. i always had the boot loop problem. i got that all taken care of. i was playing GTA for about 30 minutes or so and then the ps3 freezes. i had to restart the ps3. since then it no longer recognizes my external hard drive. can someone please help. i have about 85 game back ups on there. i am in desperate need of some help. thanks in advance

Ever reflow your PS3 or paid someone to reflow it (YLOD repair)? Probably not, no I'm guessing the HDD went kaput or something, and the PS3 freezing was just an effect of it losing connection to the data source for whatever game you were playing when it froze, as opposed to the HDD kaputting because the PS3 froze.

Does the external hard drive spin up when you plug it in to the PS3? What about if you plug it in to a computer? Can you read/access the hard drive and files from a computer? Try a different USB port on your PS3?

no the ps3 is in perfect condition. never needed any work done on it. i hooked the drive up to my computer at first it didn't read it. then i tried a few more times and the pc wanted to scan it for errors. once i did that the computer recognized the drive. i think fixed the problem. as i hooked the drive back up to my ps3 and it works. i am backing it up to my hard drive on my computer just incase.(close to a terabyte) i know see NTFS works on ps3's. i want to get a new drive. do the NTFS formatted hard drives work better.

Eh the hard drive can **** up regardless of format. I didn't think PS3s could read NTFS, if they can go for it, FAT/FAT32 limits file size to 4GB, so you need a special, slow program to copy many PS3 games to the hard drive... NTFS has no such restriction... But again, does NTFS even work with PS3s?

i saw in the new multiman there is an option to change from reading from a FAT32 to NTFS. i am aware of the 4GB limit with FAT32
