So I bought a used 120GB PS3 Slim that wouldn't read Blu-Ray discs, but DVDs worked fine. Ordered a new laser that worked for a couple days now discs don't spin. After reassembling multiple times it did spin briefly, loaded a game but froze. Then wouldn't spin again. I put the old laser back in and it seems to be at its original state, only reading DVDs.

So am I correct in assuming I got a crap laser and need to RMA it?

Make sure that the laser isnt dirty. After cleaning the lens it may work. If not then yes i would RMA it.

I cleaned the new laser and got it to work temporarily before it crapped out again. Could it keep getting dirty that fast? I went ahead and contacted the seller about an RMA and they were really good about it all.. already send a prepaid return shipping label.

I guess I'll just send it back and try again. If I'm lucky, I'll have a replacement before the wknd.

I noticed some dust buildup in the drive, mainly on the lubed rails. It looks like lithium grease was used. Should I use something else? Preferably something I can snag cheap at AutoZone. Thank you.
