PlayStation 3 games that have sold or shipped at least one million copies.

    Gran Turismo 5 (5.5 million)

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (5.09 million)

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (4.8 million approximately; 3.531 million in the US, 244.578 and 25.268 The Best in Japan, at least 1 million in UK)

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (3.8 million)

    MotorStorm (3.31 million)

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (3 million shipped as of December 31, 2009; 1.97 million approximately; 1.076 million in the US, 706,461 in Japan, 200,000 in UK)

    LittleBigPlanet (3 million)

Final Fantasy XIII (2.89 million approximately: 1.85 million in Japan, 140,000 in other Asian countries, 828,200 in US, 100,000 in UK)

Grand Theft Auto IV (2.73 million approximately: 1.89 million in US, 211,240 and 37.306 The Best in Japan, 600,000 in UK)

    Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (2.6 million)

Resistance: Fall of Man (2.5 million)

    Killzone 2 (2 million)

    inFamous ("nearly" 2 million)

    Heavy Rain (1.7 million)

Resident Evil 5 (1.62 million approximately: 585,000 in US, 520,564 and 258,961 Gold Edition in Japan, 200,000 in UK, 62,040 in France)

    Heavenly Sword (1.5 million)

God of War III (1.46 million approximately; 1.28 million in the US, 100,000 in UK, 88,956 in Japan)

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (1.455 million approximately; 584,000 in the US, 122,019 regular and 149,028 The Best in Japan, 600,000 in UK)

Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (1.25 million

    MotorStorm: Pacific Rift (1 million)

Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time (1 million)

Total PlayStation 3 games sold as of June 30, 2010: 315.3 million.

And then considering that Call of Duty: Black Ops raked in $360 million on launch day and $650 million within five days. Sales of this game have now passed $1 billion!
That's $1,000,000,000 for writing and selling one game!

    And people cry about piracy
Every time I read about piracy killing any industry, gaming, movie, music.... I look around and can never find any evidence of it! Only a bunch of sheep saying "I don't support or advocate piracy" I'm not releasing anything because you are going to Pirate Games! That's right, the gaming industry is on the verge of collapsing.

And the games and movie tickets just get more and more expensive and we get blamed for piracy!

The only criminals I see are those that are raking in the sales from games, movies, music and other media!

How's one for you - Why is Facebook worth $50,000,000,000

    Just my 2 cents!

i agree and disagree with you...i believe piracy isnt going to shut down an industry...

old joe bloe might not be able to afford 2 diamond incrusted private jets...just the one...

what is annoying about piracy is that the hard work that goes into creating the software is pretty much stolen and passed around for free (im a software developer).

    just my 2 cents

This is only a debate so don't take this like an attack but as software dev, I assume that you work for some one that pays you to write code for them? Then you get paid - The person/company that you wrote the code for goes and sells it over and over and over again. Do you get more money from them or just your salary or contracted amount?

no i dont take it as an 'attack' and im not 'attacking' back...all i was saying is that i believe piracy will not kill an industry and that as a software developer it can be annoying...

i do work for a company and no i dont get "royalties" from what i write but my company does...which in the end benefits me in one way or another...but if other companies started stealing that work and not paying for it then my company loses out and in the end...so do i...

i dont care much for the piracy issue thats out there, it will always be there no matter what.

I doesn't matter. Your on a contract, unless your working for a really small company, and pays like $10 an hour.

    Just my 2 cents.

Game devs are payed very well, but what they get payed verse the amount of money the house makes is ridiculous!

If games were priced at a quarter of the price they are today, why pirate? Why mod your consol and loose your warranty?

I have never seen Hombrew software for sale and when devs ask for a donation through PayPal, I often give a few dollars if I like and use the software.

$1 billion for a mediocre game like Black ops in story mode shows that there is a lack of good games OR people can only afford to buy one game at the time, instead of two or three!

My Son saves all his money for the next "big" game to come out!
Don't go to the movies much any more as the cinema in the closet mall has now closed because now they just charge too much to go see a film.

i have the same view that if the games were cheaper we wouldnt need to hack our consoles or mod chip them...but unfortuantely its a lose lose situation...if prices are dropped there will always be someone else out there that thinks its too high and soon enough it will all happen again...

and i have never seen home brew stuff for sale either but of course there can be arguments there too...some might say its free cause the hackers/developers are awesome and dont care about the money...others will say, well they managed to hack it in the first place, whats there to stop someone else from hacking what they have done?

and again i agree with you on the pays for developers...i get paid comfortably as well but a piece of work that takes me 30mins to do, the company will sell for 5000 maybe even 10000...what do i see of that? a very very very small fraction...but then again, here i am sitting at work browsing the forum

So your argument for "piracy doesn't hurt the industry" is that "lots of games are selling."

So if you had 100 bucks in your pocket, and I stole 10 of those dollars, I could be all like, "Dude, you still have 90 dollars, what's the problem?"

    Non sequitur?

its a bad argument but basically "YES"...

since the industry is so large it doesn't take such a big impact as it would if the industry was just a $100 industry...

the piracy argument has been around for so long now...look at the music industry...its still around isnt it? and still making a crap load of money...
