    Nice work! A clear and concise tutorial <3

    (but you could also just use guiformat.exe and simply hit "START" button. That's it. No messing around, just press one button and it's done)

    It's a 72KB file that works on any version of Windows (including x64 variants) and looks like this;

    Just select the drive/partition you want to format and hit START.

    That's actually called fat32format. That is just the gui version of it! (as you can see here: http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/ind...at32format.htm)

    Ok I do have a question. I got my 1TB external today. I formatted it all to fat32. However, im now thinking I want to allocate about 300gb of that to NTFS so that I can play my movies that are over 4gb. (the rest can stay in the fat32 bit)

    Is this possible? I beleive I need to make the fat32 partition primary but I don't even know how to do that.

    Better yet just type the following from command line dos prompt.

    Format /FS:FAT32 X:

    Where X is the path of your external drive you want to format.

    No need for any extra programs, one line thats it.

    Well the PS3 can't, yet, read NTFS .. unless you meant you're just keeping it NTFS for use on the PC. Either way, it's quite simple to partition the drive up and have FAT32 as the first partition (active) and NTFS as the second. There are numerous guides online for resizing partitions and creating a second (or multiple) out of the free space. Since you only have FAT32 right now, when you resize it you'll be left with the chance to create a second partition as NTFS.

    Why cant the ps3 just be set to read one of the linux file systems instead of the ntfs one. I would imagine that could be easier to accomplish.

    That's what some of the more knowledgeable hackers are hoping for; being able to Linux APIs in order to get the PS3 to recognise EXT3. It'll be a damn sight easier to accomplish than getting the PS3 to ever read NTFS.

    Try and format a partition bigger than 127GB with Win7 with that command !
    It won't do partition bigger than 127GB.
