Faulty PS3, Can anybody help?
Faulty PS3, Can anybody help? –
Firstly I bought a 60GB PS3 off ebay YLOD, to try and fix for myself, for a bit of a project, and possibly even for online play now with this jailbreak.
I followed Gilsky's (or however it is spelt) guide on youtube.
When I opened up the PS3 one of the tiny screws that connects the harddrive caddy to the motherboad was missing, would this make a difference at all?
I did the reflux and reflow and put it all back together as was described, and it still doesn't work.
It now has a flashing red light when I try to turn it on.
I can't really find what to do from here, but willing to try anything tbf, as I find it quite interesting and would love to be able to fix it.
One thing worth mentioning though is that it looks like somebody has had ago at the motherboard already.
As you have to two big silver chips on the one side (BGR's of the top of my head?)
And then you've got the four small black chips in sets of two next to them,
One of them seems to be a bit melted on top, would this cause an issue aswell?
Thank you for any help you can give me, I'm very grateful.
sounds like u bought a tampered one. Someone has had a go and fooked it more.
Sounds as if hes started to melt the die, probably done it for 2 long, or just incorrectly.
I cant really advise as ive only fixed on2 yellow light ps3, but the only method i know to fix them is the same as the xbox, you need to get it reballed mate.
And it can be expensive, this will fix it, if done properly and with some good thermal paste then the console should last forever

.......... cheap when you have the equipment
Reballing the two bigger chips?

Will that make a difference?
And I've got Artic Silver 5 Thermal Paste
If possible, it might be better to re-sell this PS3 and try to purchase another one. Seems like it'll take quite a bit of time to even attempt to fix it.
Yeah its looking that way, but I'd rather fix this one myself, its a bit of a challenge and I enjoy it.
