Fat 80g controller board problem?
Fat 80g controller board problem? –
I've got a fat 80g built in October of 2008. Turned it on one day, with a game inside it, and it insisted there was no disc. The force-eject worked, but since then it won't take discs or play any downloaded demo or installed game. The laser never moves or lights up. All signs point to a BD controller board problem.
This 'station has a BMD-031 board, which as far as I can tell has no NAND chip. Is it hidden somewhere else? Has anyone ever replaced a BMD-031? I've found a few descriptions of this problem on this and other forums, but no one has come back with any resolution; If replacing the board worked, they didn't say.
Please, if anyone has actually fixed this, let me know. And please don't jump in with "Call Sony" or "Buy a new one." That's not helpful, and if I could afford those options, I wouldn't be here. It's a four-year old machine that sits on the shelf fright next to the thirteen year old PS2 and the sixteen year old PS, which both still work. I should't have to fight with this thing; it cost more than my first car.
Thanks in advance,
