External HDD Problems –
01-15-2011,09:58 PM
Yo..
So I've just formatted an external drive and plugged in into the PS3..
Works at the start but then something weird starts to happen..
Formatted to FAT32 ofc..
For Example, I go to Video and select "Display All", Go a tab to the right, and the HDD would disconnect and reconnect again..
Basically it shows up as USB but whenever I try access it, It disappears from the list and then returns a second later, Unable to even use it for anything at the moment..
EDIT: Used a 1.5m USB Cable extender and somehow it's improved, But still not 100% -_-

It might be your cable not being able to process all the information. I had an old external that needed such a fat usb cable or else it would work poorly.
Never there but always going back

YOu can use you cable to connect other hard drive to test if the cable is OK.

Solved the problem, Turns out it was sorta the cable and the external casing itself (some cheap ass chinese junk), sometimes it worked, but it was slow as hell and games too forever to load (10-20 mins)
Went out and bought a decent Samsung one and having no problems with disconnecting or speed problems..
If possible could a mod Close/Delete this thread as I have sorted out my problem, Thanks to the people who helped me with this, appreciate it.
