I would keep your old mobo it may be broken but you paid good money for that pos.lol. At the very least you could salvage it for parts or put together a htpc box minus the blueray and the wifi. I feel your pain make sure your ebay seller has a 5 star rating if not its just not worth the risk.

I just fixed this error on my fat. A bad connection on the bluetooth board was the culprit.
The controller not working plugged in should of been a dead giveaway.

Think I could try reflowing the solder in that area and see if that would fix it? or know of a CFW that would bypass the wifi/bluetooth check?
Mobo discolored and bubbled up??? That sounds like mobo delamination. That shouldn't happen under ANY normal operating conditions, and normally only happens if someone gets inpatient with a heatgun and throws it up to 500C or so. My guess is that the previous owner tried to reflow it themselves and toasted the board. It's really a shame, cause the controller could have been replaced if the board was not damaged. I do BGA reballing, which involves soldering of BGA components; even with the long durations of extreme heat needed for that I have never delaminated a board. I frequently have a board over 150C (the safe rework preheating temp) for 1/2 hr at a time, and over 220C (the temp at which lead-free solder melts) for a couple minutes. If I was you, I would demand my money back, unless you bought it with it specifically stating that a repair was attempted and was unsuccessful, AND that the repair was attempted with improper equipment.

Don't toss the board though. 1, it's really unsafe for the environment to have electronic components sitting in landfills. 2, recycling of components like that is free 99% of the time. 3, I'll the pay the shipping for it, I could prolly still use the GPU/CPU/RAM off it for repairs I have laying around the shop. Actually, I have a repair waiting on RAM right now.

Sorry for the late reply, wanted to clarify that this PS3 still had the warranty seal on it and was never taken apart untill I opened it.

Should use it with the LV2DIAG.SELF. It won't install through normal method.
