I have researched this for days and I honestly don't think there is a home fix for error 8002F1F9. With that said, I would like to find out more about what this error code means. Does it mean the bluetooth/wifi has problems or the bluray? or is it just a bad nand flash that just can't be fixed? I believe the bluetooth/wifi is part of the motherboard and cannot be replaced.

I have a 2nd hand ebay special with seal intact 160GB PS3 Slim that will not go past 41% using OFW 3.61 or any other OFW's. As a last resort NONE of the CFW's I tried will even load/start in high hopes I could see an XMB menu. The system can acess recovery menu when the PS3 HDD is formatted via PC but none of the 6 options in recovery do anything. New HDD in the PS3 does not help fix the problem.

A new observation I made tongiht is that if I pull the HDD out at EXACTLY 5% the update will continue all the way to 99% and then hang, while at 99% and inserting the HDD results in the 8002F1F9 error again. I could probably better understand what is going on if I knew what hardware issue is causing this. At 41% what is the PS3 checking to throw this error code? bear in mind this system has never been opened up so I highly doubt is a ribbon wire or tampering issue.

I wouldn't pull the HD out when it's updating for one you will totally frag your hard drive. Right now it's only partially bricked. Did you buy with paypal? or have some other kind of buyer insurance? Returning it is a last ditch effort I would try to boot into recovery long reformat your hard drive(will take like a whole day to format this way but can fix bad sectors). If all that works then install your fw update. Looking up your error code returned this:

it happens when you dont assembly your ps3 correctly on the bluetooth card and the wifi card, so, the first thing you need to do, is open up your ps3 and check the connection of the wifi card and the bluetooth card, once that done, try to install the update again and it will complete it, mine was stuck at 70%, after i fixed the connection reached 100% inmediatly

I have an CECH-2012 with bricked WIFI/BT module which has the same problem. I "pestered" a lot of people to get ideas on how to fix it but nobody were interested on helping.

The only thing that comes to my mind now is a CFW PUP that doesn't flash the BT/WIFI, which should install properly.

There is a custom firmware builder app you have to set up your environment on windows and it looks simple enough.

Thanks, for the info guys. I think I can confirm it is something with the motherboard either wifi/bluetooth (which is not replaceable on the slim) or the NAND itself was corrupted.

I've got my new motherboard today and the PS3 works so I now know the bluray drive works great and wasnt the problem. I could probably save the old one if I knew how to reprogram the NAND chip or erase it somehow (short it out maybe?) it's junk to me as of now so I could care less if it was permanetly damaged but its a good guinea pig to try to do something with it.

It IS the BT module, because I have an "working" HongKong slim which WAS with update loop 8002F1F0 problem, used downgrader LV2diag with downgrade PUP on it to make it work. It plays fine but both WIFI and BT do not work and it complains about an unknown USB device connected (I suppose it's the BT/WIFI module as it's an USB device).

Yup, I took apart the tin plates on the mobo and found that right underneath where the wifi antenna connectors are the motherboard is discolored and looks bubbled up some. May have taken a hit from lighting if someone was using the ethernet. That sucks, if this were the PS3 fatty I could just simply replace the wifi board. Stupid PS3 slims

Think I could try reflowing the solder in that area and see if that would fix it? or know of a CFW that would bypass the wifi/bluetooth check?

Toss this TCL script on the TASKS folder of your PS3MFW and then run PS3MFW.

Choose the appropriate options (if you patch something already modified, like REBUG, for example do UN-TICK ALL BOXES but the broken BT one).

Use lv2diag.self to install it. IT STILL DOES 8002F1F0 if you use the updater from the PUP to install.

And it WILL WIPE THE HARDDRIVE. Nothing can be done about it, sadly.

But at least you will have it working again.

A piece of advice: If someone else is willing to use this, it's a FAT and is performing a downgrade search for the lv2diag that skips flashing the BD drive so you don't lose bluray movie playback.

Thanks again, I really wouldnt know what I am doing with CFW's and besides not being able to go online would be pointless for me. I just bought this system on a whim thinking I could fix it for cheap but i was wrong, lesson learned I guess. I just replaced the motherboard and it works great now so I may just toss the bad motherboard away and just forget it like a bad dream. Unless somebody else could make use of it.

With CFW you can for example run SHOWTIME and play matroska videos.
