    1.USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! the tutorial is somewhat long so beware.
    2. this method only works on ps3 models made before 17th feb'09

    please also if your ps3 came with firmware higher than 3.21 ie....3.25 / 3.41 do not go lower that origonal firmware.

    check on the bottom of your ps3 for manufacture date some consoles may have a dat code ie...7c the key to the code are as follows..

    7A = First quarter of 2007

    7B = Second quarter of 2007

    7C = Third quarter of 2007

    7D = Fourth quarter of 2007

    8A = First quarter of 2008

    8B = Second quarter of 2008

    8C = Third quarter of 2008

    8D = Fourth quarter of 2008................ and so one 2010 is for example is 0A=1st quarter 2010

    all above was figured out by me

    all belo was all over the net apart from this site so there you go.

    i edit some info reguarding origonal ps3 shipped firmware to save peoples boxes being bricked here is the jist
    " please also if your ps3 came with firmware higher than 3.21 ie....3.25 / 3.41 do not go lower that origonal firmware."

    3.Getting started:
    4.*2 USB Flashdrives, 4 GB or more* <<<<< That means NO (Reapeat) NO 2GB Flashdrives!
    5.*2 PS3 Controllers Via USB*
    6.*A Computer, you obviously have one -.-*
    7.*A disk that will run in your PS3, BUT NO DvD's!, CD's Work best, or EARLY PS3 Games (EARLY!!!) *
    8.
    9.
    10.First on one of your flashdrives, You will need OFW 3.21, Found here: downloads.exophase.com/634/ps3-firmware-321/
    11.
    12.Your second USB will contain your desired frimware,
    13.Whether that friware is 3.55, or 3.56, 3.66,
    14.Just put it on the USB in the PS3 UPDATE folder
    15.
    16.-Now go to your PS3, start the restore mode menu.
    17.----**Okay, all idiots that don't follow from here on WILL brick their console, seriously.**------------
    18.
    19.----*Plug in both controllers, if your second controller does not turn on, you are okay,
    20.if it does, you need to put it back into restore.---------
    21.
    22.-----Click "Restore System Default" With first controller, and AS YOU press it, unplug your power cord,----
    23.
    24.While spamming the O Button on 2nd controller. <<< Note: My brother always helped. :l
    25.
    26.Okay so as soon as you unplug your PS3, make sure Controller 2 is still spamming O
    27.
    28.Plug power cord back in, Hold the "Disk Eject" Button for 15 seconds.
    29.
    30.Still spamming O
    31.
    32.After 15 seconds, quit spamming O, Unplug controller 1, Put controller 2 into Controller 1's slot
    33.
    34.Put USB with 3.21 in.
    35.
    36.Enter restore mode.
    37.
    38.If you did it correctly, you should go to Update, and be able to update to 3.21, if not retry,
    39.My first console took 4 trys. Don't worry.
    40.
    41.After you update to 3.21, Unplug power cord. Put the 3.21 USB in Controller 2's slot, put Desired Frimware USB in other slot, use wireless controller now.
    42.
    43.Instert your CD/ early Game.
    44.
    45.Turn on your console.
    46.
    47.Keep pressing the PS button on your controller in tell it brings up a screen that looks like recovery screen.
    48.
    49.there will be 3 options
    50.
    51."Terminate HDD Memory"
    52."Report Sytem Defect to Main Hub"
    53."Insert new Default Update"
    54.
    55.And you will see the Registerd TradeMark Sony PS3 at the bottom.
    56.Turn off your controller, unplug 3.21 USB, plug in Controller 2.
    57.
    58.Press "Insert new Default Update"
    59.
    60.It will ask for default update's registration code.
    61.
    62.Here are a list of registration codes, they all work.
    63.DO NOT Input them wrong, or it will YLOD your sytem.
    64.
    65.3.55- 49-9034-3554
    66.(Note: There are different codes for slims, which i am currently working on )
    67.3.56- 50-2534-3565
    68.3.60- 71-6774-3607
    69.3.61- 72-2378-3617
    70.3.66- 94-3298-3669
    71.
    72.
    73.Then it will say "Override error" Have an option to click "OK" or press O to leave the screen.
    74.
    75.Switch controllers from controller 2, to controller 1, then press "OK"
    76.
    77.It will ask for the serial number of the system.
    78.Just enter "PS3XPR.%34" For fats and "PS3XPR.%34S" for slims.
    79.And it will let you continue.
    80.It will ask you to click "OK" one last time
    81.Then you will have to press "Install"
    82.Let it download the update, When it's finished, it will shut down, the red light will flash 3 times, Green 3 times, Red 4 times, Green 3 times, Red 5 times, Green 3 times, Red 6 times, green 4 times.
    83.IMMIDEIETLY at the end of Green 4 times "Beep, Beep, Beep, Beep"
    84.You have to unplug the power cord.
    85.Then plug it back in after 15 seconds.
    86.You will start up your system with none of your USB slots being used, it will then install the update, and restart your console.
    87.
    88.Congratulations, your ready to jailbreak!

    please remember that this only works on pre -feb 09 ps3's also never ever ever downgrade past your shipped ps3 firmware ( the fw that your ps3 came with).

    also "spamming the "o" think means ressing the "o" button pn ps-pad

    Yo nice post. I will be doing this. (I didn't upgrade by accident, I'm not an idiot, I just have 2 consoles and decided to upgrade one of them).

    It needs to be cleaned up a bit to make this easier to follow, also when you spam o, what would the button be for a Japanese console? That's what I have and I think the x and o buttons have different functions to the norm, but I'm not 100% how differently they're orientated exactly.

    No i said it wrong what i meant was:

    Why are there numbers from 3 to 88, and are there empty ones in between? Numbering the steps would make mutch more sense. Then you could say: I ****ed up at ex step 5.
