Downgrade 3.5 IPhone –
12-29-2010,09:10 PM
Before i get flamed i did extensive research from google before trying this.
I have a fw 3.5 ps3 phat and want to experiment running game backups for educational purposes (i already own the retail disk for the game i want to try). Before i can load the payload i need to downgrade (i dont really use blueray movie playback so im not too worried)
I have an iphone 2g. I tried the iPhoDroid application but it failed to work on my PC even after trying all the recommended work arounds (running as admin, moving to C: then running etc.)
I then instead just installed android from inside cydia (used bootlace to install idroid). Boots into android just fine. So i should be close to getting it working but im having trouble loading the appropriate files.
i downloaded service jig from here IPhoneLinux - PSFreedom Wiki
and tried copying the android.img.gz and zimage files to the iphone's /private/var but that would just get stuck at
reading baseband nvram... done
i also tried copying them to the idroid folder. also a no go.
Is there something i am doing wrong? it should get to a point where it says something like "waiting for device" right? not working for me.
help would be appreciated. Thanks.
by the way just watched the video from Chaos Communication Conference; very interesting. Most of the technical stuff made perfect sense. would love to see linux running native on my device.
EDIT: or do you think it might be worth it to just wait for the results of failoverflow team in like a month? They are not interested in game backups though so that seems like a different area for me to explore (low level homebrew). Although im not sure how efficient any software i or anyone writes natively for linux on a ps3 though since the ram is so limited.
EDIT: maybe i should switch gears and try it on my TI-89. Thoughts?
