Do PS1 saves get backed up by the PS3 backup utility?
Do PS1 saves get backed up by the PS3 backup utility? –
This has to be the dumbest question I have ever had to ask. I recently fixed my PS3 that got the dreaded YLOD about a year back since Sony refused to work on it. I have no idea how long the system will work so I want to backup my data. Right now I can't because all of my drives are ass full of crap. Anyway, since I am in the middle of making space I thought I would ask some of my fellow PS3 owners if PS1 saves also get backed up when using the PS3 backup utility. I have some save files from a few games that I would be assed to try and imitate again and I would like to have them backed up for when the inevitable YLOD pops back up again. Anyway, thanks in advance.
why not save them manually?
as for your original question, im not entirely sure, but i believe the backup utility pretty much makes a carbon copy of your drive and splits it into parts as you save it to an external hdd. so yes i do think that ps1 saves (as well as anything else on your drive) should be copied.
You can't save PS1 saves manually. Same goes with PS2 saves. =/ Kind of irritating to be honest. Anyway, once I partition off this extra space I made I'll be backing it up. Thanks for the reply bro.

found this after a quick google search, shows how to do it.
COPY PS3 PS2 PS1 SAVE FILES FROM PS3 TO A MEMORY CARD DEVICE
Insert a USB 2.0 Flash Drive, or other memory card device, into the PS3. It should show up under "Game Save Utility" found under "Game" and pick a PS/PS2 virtual memory card. If not, don't worry, just continue on. Choose a particular game save from either your PSOne or PS2 virtual memory card, and push the Triangle button. Choose "Copy" and then choose the "USB Device" to copy it to. Do this for whatever PS/PS2 game saves and files you need to. Next, scroll down from "Game" and choose "Saved Data Utility" for PS3 game saves. Choose a particular PS3 game save and push the Triangle button. Choose "Copy" and then choose the "USB Device" to store it to. Done. It's that easy. Note: Not all USB 2.0 Flash Drives will work. I had a CRS Electronics Flash Drive that was "Locked" from the PS3 with no way to unlock it. If this happens to you, or your particular Flash Drive wont show up on your PS3, purchase a new Flash Drive device. Note: I only used a "Flash Drive Device" by example. You can use just about any electronic or storage device you might already own! For example, your PSP, i-Pod, video-Pod, 'whatever'-Pod, certain digital phones, cameras, video cameras, external HDDs, etc. The list of devices is limited to what your PS3 and computer can BOTH read. Experiment with whatever devices you already own!
Well shit, that explains it. I was trying to copy the card it's self rather than the contents inside of it. Still. Kind of a crappy way to do it since any cards that have the same file names will ask to be over written. Oh well. Thanks. Next is the full on backup.
