discs not showing up

i went to go play bc2 off my external harddrive so i put in a mw2 disc and the loading symbol in the top right corner started spinning but then froze. i was reading around and some people were saying that the laser is blown out but then other were saying that it was one of the v shaped gears. i tried at least 10 different games and a few cds and dvds but still same thing happens. how should i go about solving this?

Well that is exactally what my 40gb models does and it is a bad laser on mine. They can be had for fifty bucks on ***********.com. good luck.

Am in the same boat have read around and looks like the laser is gone. How much hassle is it to replace the laser, for someone who has trouble changing the batteries in the tv remote, im noob to the max at these things.
