I've read that it's advisable to play the copied games to the disc with some games disc inserted in the BD player? Currently i'm using my demos disc that came with the MOVE controller, Is that necessary or could I just play the games without any disc in the BD player? There are rumours that it could be bad for the drive, I'm using Multiman.

Some games can run discless, but not all, so it's advisable to use a disc. Having a disc in your drive won't damage it anymore than if you were playing games normally without a BM.

it all depends on manager, payload & game
bad to use a disc or not use a disc, I honestly don't see where it would matter either way

I reckon alot people on here probably just bought a cheap PS3 with a broken drive so they could install cfw on it

I'm one of those people. Unfortunately I've had no luck so far. I can't even get homebrew to boot.
So just to clarify, is there any homebrew that will boot without a disc? Or does it normally boot without one anyway? I ask because I've heard that mismatched drives will cause nothing to boot at all, which is what I'm experiencing.

Mismatched bd-rom, dead bd-board, or the blu-ray drive disconnected are all things that will cause any homebrew/PSN content to boot to a black screen.

Thanks very much for the info. It looks like I'll be trying the remarry process then. Sorry for the (sort of) thread hi-jack by the way.

Best CFW for discless support is Hermes 3.41 CFW. Probably your best option with a broken blu-ray drive.
As far as I know, my ps3 has never had an undetected error.

I bought a ps3 with a broken drive for 40 bucks, was lucky for it to have had 3.42 at the time. I was having trouble with homebrew at first. Hitting the eject button before trying the programs works for me for whatever reason, maybe it will for others, not sure why though.
