Please correct me or add any input, it's all helpful.
I just got a hold of a CECHH01 40gb Phat PS3 that won't read discs. I'm trying to diagnose whether it has a bad laser, bad motor, or bad logic board.
It is on 3.72 OFW, so unless I want to buy a ProgSkeet or E3, I can't remarry another drive if I bought one.
I insert an original PS3 disc (and a random cd-r), and the blue light comes on the front of the PS3, but no sound is being made (no disc spinning up), no disc shows as being inserted. I took the drive apart and looked at the laser when inserting a disc, and there is a short burst approximately 1-2 seconds long of the blue laser and no disc spinning.
Is the laser working properly and quits because the motor isn't spinning the disc, or should it be trying to read for a longer time?
Or is both the laser/motor gone, or worst case, the logic board screwed?
I've uploaded a very short video to Youtube, I can't post the link here yet due to low posts, but if anyone cares to see I can PM them with it.
Also I've read that if a PSN game plays, the logic board is fine. I don't know if that's accurate or someone guessing, but in case it's relevant, I downloaded a game demo and it plays.
If anyone has any input, I'd appreciate it.
