I picked up 2 broken CECHK01 systems from Craigslist the other day. I opened them both up and was doing a lot of changing things to see what I could get working. The drives were still not reading, but I wasn't worried about that. I tried to get on Playstation Store with one and download my games so I could play. It just gave a black screen and never loaded. Same with Netflix. I was able to download both apps, as well as Laugh Factory. However, none would load. The same thing happened with the other system. After 4+ hours of reinstalling firmwares and reformatting drives, I discovered something. I accidentally swapped the drives. More specifically, the controller boards.

So, if folks didn't know, not having the "married" Blu ray controller board hooked up will prevent Playstation Store from loading. I didn't have any games downloaded to test if it affected them as well. Hopefully I can save you the 4+ hours it took me to realize this. It makes little sense on the face of it. However, when you think about it, it's Sony implementing anti-piracy measures. Prevent possible modified setups from accessing the store and probably online games. (Again, another thing I couldn't test due to the fact that the lasers are bad in these and I had no PSN games to test with)
