configuring 2 ps3's –
11-13-2010,03:02 PM
I have an old 40gb fat ps3 w/3.41 that I've avoided JB'ing all this time now. I miss the online play and psn stuff, so I'm buying a second ps3. If I get a new one I can have 3.41 on, then which one should I JB? I'd like a better idea of what to expect before I do anything. For instance;
1:Can I use the data transfer utility if both machines are on 3.41 and it will copy EVERYTHING to the new machine?
2:If it does this, does it REMOVE anything from the "old" console (aka; your psn playable dl's, saved games, etc)?
3:In other words, if I let it transfer to the new machine, will I only be able to use the saved games on the new machine? Or can I still fire the old one up, and all my saved games are available there, too?
4:If I transfer to the new machine and it changes or removes something from the old, can I wipe the old one out and use it's data that I recently backed up to restore it so I can have everything available on two machines, one of which will never be on the net again?
Just trying to fiqure out how this will work, allready looks like I can't sync w/server to keep trophies unless I upgrade FW...Don't care about trophies anyways.
Well, after much research, it seems as if you can't even do a data transfer without upgrading FW to newest. From what I understand this is neccessary to de-activate and to even use the transfer utility. AND to answer my own previous question...If you do a backup of the OG unit, trasnfer from OG to NEW unit, any copy protected stuff is deleted, and even doing a restore of the previous backup data will not bring it back.

Reason: more research
