I've been having issues with a second hand PS3 I've got. I'm using a hard drive that is a couple years old and has been used extensively as my internal drive. Lately, I've been getting crashes frequently; when I restart, the PS3 either freezes on the waves screen before the XMB comes up or it says my hard drive is corrupted and will be reformatted. In the former case, I have to choose "Restore File System" via recovery mode. This wipes my drive and everything is back to normal for a day or two. This has been happening wash, rinse and repeat for a couple weeks.
My question is, has anyone else experienced similar issues with an older FAT PS3?
Does this point to a problem with my PS3 hardware itself or the hard-drive? I'm relunctant to RMA my HDD since it is still usable after each reformat. Any insight into this type of issue or possible advice for where to go from here would be much appreciated.
