CFW installing for the first time.

I'm going to install CFW for the first time on my brand new PS3 SLIM CECH-2503B 320GB which is running on OFW 3.50 now (it come with factory 3.41) and I'd like you guys to give me some tips. As far as I know I need to proceed with following steps:

1. 3.55 OFW UPDATE (170mb), Reboot PS3
2. In Recovery Mode 3.55 KMEAW_CFW (170mb) and Reboot PS3
3. Install Package Manager -> multiMAN_ver_1.16.07_MEGA
4. Install Package Manager -> BDEMU for KMEAW 3.55

Is that all correct ?
I'm not going to login to PSN, I'm not even registered yet because it requires 3.56 update but I'd like to have ethernet cable plugged in just to browse internet. Would that be safe enough to avoid ban or something. Thanks for any reply.

Look at this, someone who read 1st and asked questions after, Bravo.

All those steps are correct. About the internet...No one really knows what is safe and what is not. If you want to be absolutely sure don't connect to the internet...anything else is somewhat of a risk.

you got it down brother. i see you do research. keep doing it in the future- it will lead to good things.

the only problem being theres no proven way to avoid a ban on psn. its pretty much just taking a risk and taking responsibility for the consequences that may follow.

Ok, thanks for confirming this basic things 4 me. But honestly, do you guys think if I have no PSN account created yet (brand new console), is there a chance that my console send some data do sony if my ethernet cable is plugged in ?
I would have many more questions, but i'll try to search Forum first.

Even if your not signed into your psn account, you still run the risk of ban.

I already updated to OFW 3.55 yesterday but there is couple more things that bothering me and before I start with CFW 3.55 I'd like to know:

1. Is there a chance to backup GT5 save games without having CFW and without PSN ? -guess not :(
2. I have GT5 installed on my internal HDD (6,5Gb), If I make a backup now on OFW 3.55 to external drive, and after that install kmeaw 3.55 + multiman. It let me to restore the GT5 with savegames ? Backup contains few archive.dat, archive_00.dat... files, its 6,5 Gb and I did it on 3.50.

Pop in a USB Thumbdrive, find your save data on the xmb, hit /\ and copy it. Installing CFW didnt copy over my saved game data.

Believe me I already tried it, but it doesn't let me copy savegame that way.

i'm pretty sure you can just ftp the save folder(s) over to your PC to back them up. Havn't tried it but don't see any reason what so ever why you can't (with CFW)

Updated to CFW from Main Menu and saves are working well. So far so good.
