ceche 80 gig ps3 a journey
So I go to work two weeks ago and a coworker tells me a horrific story of how his son mouthed off to momma and learned the meaning behind the saying "if momma isn't happy no one is" as his wife picked up his PS3 and spiked it at the ground. Needless to say my coworker was in a melancholy state of mind, angry at the fact he was out a PS3, happy about the fact his son wouldn't likely do it again. He asked if I would take it apart and retrieve his BO2 game from the console, I told him I could and would if I could keep the Downed console, to which he informed me it wouldn't power on and he agreed. He brings it in the next day, and I am greeted with the sight of the whole corner of the console where the power/eject button are located totally borked.
I get home and me and a friend disassemble and retrieve his game, then we procede to look into what we can do to ressurect this once beautiful, backwards compatible, beast of a console we all know and love. After a total breakdown of ever piece of the console, we found the only issue visable was the power/eject board which was destroyed from the impact. We took an old YLOD 60 gig and swapped the board in and it powers on, and less then 5 minutes later over heats and shuts down. OK great, is the only thing that comes to mind, where do we go from here, thermal paste of course, so we disassemble and reapply thermal paste and bingo powers on. So now we find ourselves with two steps left, first being stress testing it and the second being figuring out how to downgrade and install cfw, so that's the tale of my newly acquired PS3.
Any comments? Concerns? Recommendations on downgrading or keeping my console from over heating again?
