Hi guys, I need to find if this YLOD PS3 has CFW or not.

Just wondering if I can take the HDD from the YLOD PS3,
Connect it to a PS3 with 3.72 OFW
    Turn on the OFW PS3

Then - will it tell me on the screen something like "This HDD has version 3.55, it must be updated to 3.72" ?? I obviously will not update the HDD, but I want to know via some feedback or message whether this YLOD PS3 has CFW.
Then I will know if it's worth fixing or not

    Thanks!

Nah it won't say, won't even read it I bet.
Can't use HDDs from another console + it wouldn't say the firmware it already has.

Any idea what time it got YLOD or if it was used online?

    What he said.
If you were to stick it in another PS3, the only way it can be used is to format it with that particular PS3, thereby losing all info on the HDD.
I would much rather go to my grave not needing my gun, than go there wishing I had it.

hmmmm.... What if you attempt a service mode downgrade on the YLOD ps3? In the end it tells you whether it was a success or not on your usb. If it worked, its on 3.55 or less, if not, 3.56 or more.
Well you can only do that if it stays on in service mode... but worth a shot.

Worth suggestion ever. Do you want to lock his console into service mode? If you truly want to know the firmware, you can only fix the ps3, then you will have your answer. Do the downgrade procedure at best will lock the console, if 3.56 or more. At worst, nothing will happen.

    Thanks guys

Yeah this is a ylod ps3 that won't boot up, so I can't do anything with it. standby light -> green light -> blink yellow light -> blink green light -> flashing red light

I'm pretty desperate since I don't have a heat gun to do a reflow, so i tried the "hair dryer in the back vents for 15 minutes trick" (with the hdd removed) to try and get a few minutes of use with the ps3 to at least check the firmware, but after letting it cool for an hour it still gives me the ylod symptoms and won't start up.

Not sure what else to do with this thing..

Guys I have a feeling this console has the waninkoko brick symptoms, although I can't confirm this because its history is unknown apart from it having cfw..

    It's a 60gb cechc02

Tried the hair dryer trick twice, but got nothing. I know it's a trivial solution, but it should have given me at least a 10 second boot, but it's still ylod

Also the ylod sequence is the same as the ps3s with the wanki brick:
    red>green>yellow>green>flashing red
Most ylod's dont flash green after the yellow light do they?

Anyway, I'm going to wait for the e3 flasher to be released for NAND consoles and try downgrading it, which will be cheaper than paying for a reball
