    Hello people of Psx-scene,

I'm considering buying a new PS3. In most shops over here, the only PS3 that's being sold is the 160GB slim. Now with the recent developments on the jailbreaking, it would make sense for Sony to sell this model with firmware at or higher than 3.56, wouldn't it? I'd like to jailbreak my PS3 obviously, so I was wondering if anyone has any information on what version of firmware there will be on this new PS3.

Excuse me if I posted this in the wrong section, or if the answer can be found on this site somewhere. I didn't find it.

Depends where you buy it from (since you didn't say what country you were from it makes it a bit harder), i personally bought one from an eBay shop which came with 3.50, some shops do tend to update firmware from used consoles though.

Oh right, I'm sorry. I'm from the Netherlands, if that's any help. I guess I'll try to buy it as soon as possible. I'm not sure if the people at the store can tell me what firmware is on the PS3...

    More info is appreciated.

i'll advise purchasing a used 1.. that way you would know what fw it would already be on..

ugh why would anyone want to rip them selves off by buying a slim ps3? Your getting majorly ripped off. Since those versions have been stripped of all functions that were originally in the ps3. You might as well buy the outside of the ps3...the plastic outer shell of it...because thats what your getting for that price. Your getting a lump of garbage when you throw money away on a slim.

^^^ Not exactly, I'd happily spend the money to know I'll always have a working JB machine.

I've 4 fat Ps3's and only 1 is a launch model. I'd happily trade my BC fat for a slim since we can run Linux again and I've a FMCB modded PS2 which cost me €20, PS1 even less.

TL;DR Buy a slim to seriously reduce the risk of YLOD.

I've modded a 320gb Slim (GT5 bundle) for a friend recently, was on 3.42 FWIW.

Id much rather have a slim than a ylod prone bc model or any fat model. What good is 4 usbs, card reader and ps2 compatibility when its sitting on the workbench with a bad motherboard/ylod.

it will be harder to find a 3.55 console 6 months to a year down the road when your bc fat kicks the bucket for good. Id back up your saves regularly.

why do people propagate the myth that fats are more prone to ylod than slims?? its a matter of age/hours played and type of usage and enviroment that the unit was kept in. thats exactly like saying older higher mileage cars break more than newer ones. well nooooooo shiiiiiiit, who woulda thought that?
