Broken blu-ray, worth buying new ??

I have a PS3 with a broken blu-ray drive. My question now is how can i check the logic board is still intact??
I can use original psjailbreak (3.41 firmware) for inserting jailbreak. But if i update to 3.55 i lose all network functions
Is this due to a defective logic board, or due to the defective blu-ray ??
The laser works, but does not read disks, and i can't start anything from installed .pkg-s.
thnx in advance

Ill try to explain more clear :
I got a completely disassembled ps3 from a friend, who tried to exchange the bluray drive. But he bought the wrong type of drive.
This ps3 was on firmware 3.15. And before buying a new drive i first updated to 3.41 (no errors in update log). To test if the jailbreak-dongle would work!! The dongle works, (jailbreak is inserted) but i cant seem to execute installed pkg-s (installing works) I get black screens.
After this i install 3.55 Firmware, this install works, but all network functionality dies with it. And so i flashed back to 3.41, and network function work again. (install log of 3.55 gives an error, i forgot what it was)
The blu-ray drive laser does work (twin laser) but does not read disks. The drive keeps skipping (up and down) every couple of seconds.
Now my question is, how can i confirm the only broken part is the blu-ray drive (wich is in pieces) and is my logic board still functional ??
thnx
