    Hi

I have a PS3 with a damaged drive. What is the best way to determine if the exact problem with it. I Want to know if I need to buy a new laser or a whole new drive.

Discs can be put in the drive and ot makes noise as if trying to read them, but nothing happens. Also if I JB my PS3 and try to run OPen Manager the system freezes.

In another thread someone suggested that this may mean the logic board is broken. Is it possible to replace this, or do I need a whole new drive.

If I need a new drive will any "Fat" one do.

I am trying to avoid wasting money buying the wrong parts.

    Thanks

When it makes a lot of noise, does the blue LED flash like mad?

Also, are you able to get the disc out of the drive when you press eject?

Final question would be, does the little clock in the corner turn when your disc is in the drive, as if the PS3 is attempting to read it?

That should help narrow down the problem.

    Probably a broken laser then.

The 40GB FAT PS3 I have did that until I replaced the laser. Works fine now.

Ill try that, it was a 2. something firmware, and i was able to update it to 3.15 so i think that the daughter board is ok. But for some reason when i do the jailbreak the ps3 just stays stuck with the wave logo thing just keeps repeating, so idk. But thanks for the tip.

I have had a chance to test this now.

I can insert the disc OK. When it is in the blue light stays on, but nothing happens on screen at all.

I can then eject the disc OK.

    Any suggestions greatfuly received,

    Thanks

    John
