Hey mates thanks for checking out my thread, please read the next couple of lines and try to help my cause i'm bummed as hell..

Bought a used phat a month ago, after 2 weeks the laser gone dead, sold it somehow for the same price yesterday, although it worked flawlessely with the HDMI and played games discless, I had a Monster cable from the guy I bought it from, sold it though yesterday.

Today I bought a new Slim 160GB, plugged it in, no display in HDMI though only with the svideo cables, I was sure it's the cable as everything worked perfect on this TV yesterday.
Went to the store the cable didn't work there as well, they replaced it to the same kind of cheap cable but again it didn't worked, what are the chances?

They closed up so I called up a friend that came by with another not really high-quality cable but a one that's working for him, didn't work either, tried just about anything with the display reset on the power button, powered off the tv\ps3\plugged out the HDMI and returned it\entered the display while I was on the svideo tried to switch to HDMI only got a black screen\power off\on and returned to svideo, tried everything I could think of.

3 Cables, nothing worked on the same TV that worked yesterday, got no other HDMI output on it and no other system that uses HDMI, the PS3 did work in the store with some HDMI cable on 1080P (my tv is 720P).

I had a friend at my house about a month ago with a slim from the same store and I think he had about the same cable and it worked.
I'm really dumbfounded by this and clueless as to what I should do next.
I guess I'll get a PS3 from a friend tommorow and check it on my TV, if it won't work I guess I'll return the ps3, seriously a mindf*ck scenario..

    Any other advice?
Can't seem to shake it off that yesterday it worked fine with the Monster cable, maybe the first defect HDMI cable that they gave me ruined my HDMI output on the TV?
If the TV's shite now, how's the quality on HDMI to whatever converters?

that sucks, ps3 looks crappy on svideo, anyway try it on a different tv and c. Could b a bad hdmi port on the ps3. Also try playing with hd settings where you have 1080i, 1080p, 720i, 720p and so on. Check wat the tv uses and enable that and try disable others, enabling all, try all combinations that can be done.

If ur tv only go's up to say 720p and only 1080p/i is enabled then i beleive u would get a black screen enabling all should work but if it doesn't try disableing some and enabling some.

TOO much bad luck with this console in a month.. bought a brand new one and yesterday I had one working on HDMI and now it's dead.

The PS3 HDMI Port is good cause when I took it to the store to replace the cable they did get a HDMI to work on a TV in the store on 1080P.

You guys probably don't get it, there's no 720-1080 options or nothing, I can't be on the HDMI, I got no HDMI settings cause I can only see whatever kind of display of the PS3 on the TV like the XMB\recovery menu and any other display only on AV, when i'm in the display settings with the AV and I try to switch to the HDMI in the settings it goes to black in the AV, still the same NO SIGNAL in the HDMI and then when I return to the AV after about 30 seconds like it says, it returns to the display settings, it just can't be on HDMI.

The HDMI is always on NO SIGNAL as if there's nothing connected, the funny thing is that when I do the display reset with the power button and both AV and HDMI are connected, and i'm on the AV channel, it says that the system detected a HDMI output and if I want to switch over to it, I press Yes as usual, black screen, no signal in HDMI (even tried to disconnect the AV while doing it to get the system to detect the HDMI only) then I return to AV and it's back to the same menu cause it couldn't get the HDMI to work.

I can't believe that all the 3 Cables were defect but at the same time how come a great TV that worked yesterday now got a ruined HDMI output?

I would suggest you try hooking something else that is HDMI up to TV to see if you may have burned out your HDMI port on TV

    V10 SCPH-50001 with Network adapter SCPH-10281 500 G HD
    PSP 3000 9G 6.20 PRO CFW Perm
Unofficial FMCB v1.8C OPL self compiled HD and SMB preferred
Is how all good gaming systems came to be

Can a bad cable burn the TV's HDMI port? I got a urge to burn their freakin store down..
Tommorow a friend will come over with his PS3 and I guess that I'll get the final answer.. thanks guys, tried everything other than that.

If I can't get a HDMI to work ever again on this TV and still want to get a great video quality without a big loss, there's any HDMI-to-xxx converter that's any good\recommended?

Not sure what sony changed between different software versions of the ps3 but my slim allows you to choose "select all the resolutions that are supported by your TV" under settings video output settings, then choosing the cable and thats the next option.
Should u be unable to find this option or just dosn't work u can buy a "Component Cable for PS3" from walmart for 4.95+tax as long as ur tv supports that. Capable of HD 1080p quality as well. Just search for component cable for ps3 at walmart or another store. ur tv would have a red, blue, and green plugs for video and use red and white for audio similar to the svideo plug but with 2 additional plugs.

Nothing's changed, even my fattie had this option, you get it though only when you're on a HDMI cable that the system responds to.
I only see the menu when i'm plugging it with the AV\Svideo type of cable, that under settings got other options cause it's not really a cable you can do 720-1080 resolutions with.

Checked everything, the TV's HDMI port is dead.

Can it be fixed somehow without spending a fortune on it?

i can prob help you m8, i knew another guy whom had the exact same prob as you. his brother had a 720p tv, and he had a 1080p tv. he got his brothers ps3 and hooked it to his 1080p tv. this changed settings in the video configuration. and when his bro hooked it back to his tv (720p) it would not show on the screen no matter how many different cables he tried. you need to hook it back up with the svideo or scart cables (not hdmi) and go into video config and uncheck 1080p. this will allow your 720p tv to recognize the signal coming from the ps3.

hope this helps, if you need further assistance, i gladly accept paypal, or money orders
