Have a 60gb launch model fat ps3 which has a bad blu ray drive which I`m hoping to replace but the connector clip on the motherboard is missing. If I purchased another ps3 with a working drive but had other problems could I use the clip from that one on my motherboard? I`ve tried cardboard and other things told hold the ribbon in place but no luck.

The second PS3 in my sig came with a snapped blu ray ribbon clip, the side mounting lugs were snapped off but as a whole it was intact.

Its hard to explain but I was able to hold the clip in place as if it was open then slide the ribbon cable in and lever the clip to close it, then I had to sort of rub the clip left and right to get it to stay down or else it tended to spring up.

I would make a video to show you how but its in there solid and working and dont want to disturb it

I did the same thing but used a different clip from another board. I also used electrical tape over it to stop it from coming off again. You could use some silicon glue (non-permanent type instead).

I always use plastic milk bottles to make a shim, line it up with the ribbon cable and cut to size , then briefly sand one end of it so it's a little easier to slide it into place. Needs to be really tight in there, then either duct tape it or hot glue it in, super glue corrodes and is too risky. It's one of the easiest things to fix on a PS3 imo, definitely don't need to buy another PS3 to fix it!

Thanks for all the help and advice. The only reason I was going to buy another ps3 was for the drive and the clip would have been a bonus but gonna take a look at the drive later as it`s not accepting discs and when I press eject it just makes a noise like it`s trying to eject something.

Yeah one of mine was like that, has the drive ever been opened to retrieve a disc? if so you can bet that the drive is in "loaded mode" and since the top part has been lifted the springs will reset the arms back into "unloaded mode".

The ps3 will still think theres a disc loaded so will try to eject but it cant since the mech is jamming against the top part.

Try seperating the halfs of the drive (5 small black screws) and then press eject, failing that manually move the mech with the ps3 powered off. the part you need to move is the sliding parts on either side of the drive one slides up one slides down.

The PS3 is now dead. For some reason the drive started making a machine gun noise and shut down. All I get now when I turn on is green light for 2 seconds, flash yellow then red blinking. After about 5 seconds I can press the power button and stops blinking and solid red but if I turn on get the same thing.

Does anyone know what the connector manufacturer and part number is on the motherboard and the BDB? I can replace them easily just need to find the correct part number. Looks like a standard Hirose connector.
