Blu-ray recognises disc but then wont load it –
I have a PS3 that I bought faulty and have repaired. It accepts a game, loads it up on the XMB but then when you actually click the disc for it to start the game the screen just goes black. I put in a region 2 UK DVD and again it recognised it, but when I went to play it, it said it cannot play that region. That brought me to the conclusion that the console could actually be NTSC (even though it says it is a PAL console on the bottom... never know the history of these faulty consoles, the case couldve been changed). Even if it was NTSC though, arent I right in thinking that all PS3 games are region free? It should load up games regardless of the region, shouldnt it?
Anyway, I cleaned the laser and still had the same problem. So I put in a different laser, still the same problem. I then took out a fully functional blu-ray drive from another console and put it in - still the same problem. Ive tried formatting the hard drive as well as starting it up in safe mode and selecting all those other option like restore files ect. I also tried with the hard drive from another working console I have. No joy!
The console was running on 4.00 fw.. I even tried updating that.
I feel like Ive exhausted every option I can think of, so Im wondering if anyone else has any other suggestions that I might not have tried?
Appreciate any suggestions, no matter what they may be. Cheers!
hi there ...can you put all the details about your ps3/////hard drive size...model .....silm or fat ?....and CHEC model ?...etc...and what the previous owner has told about this before you buy it /?
No prob. Its a fat CECHC 60GB model and it has the 60GB HDD in it. The previous owner told me nothing about the console - I bought it in a job lot of faulty consoles. It came with no blu-ray rive but other than that seemed ok. Id guess it has had a YLOD repair in the past, looking at the thermal paste.

Have you tried replacing the data cable?
You mean the ribbon going from the BRD to the MB? No, but thats a good suggestion. Cant do it now though, sold it on as faulty because I thought I just wasnt going to be able to fix it!
