    Hi Forum,

I just got a brand new PS3 Slim with OS 4.21. I bought an official Sony Playstation component video cable so that I could use the system on my really old LCD high-def TV. The system looks amazing and crisp, and everything seems to work well...except Blu-ray playback. As soon as the movie starts, it goes down to NTSC resolution with all sorts of artifacts and huge black bars on the top and bottom and it's unwatchable.

After some research, I discovered that this is to conform to a new standard that prohibits the playback of copyrighted Blu-Ray discs over analog cables to stop piracy. This has me rather incensed, because I have a legitimate TV with a legitimate PS3 and a legitimate blu ray movie...and I can't watch it. I refuse to be forced to buy a new TV because of their arcane rules.

Does anyone know of a workaround to get BD movies to play over component video cables?

    Thanks!

That's intentional. If you're not using HDMI, then they lower the output quality the curb piracy. It's beyond idiotic. There is no work around.

there are hardware work arounds, like the HD fury. HDfury.com they sell HDMI to analogue adapters that support HDCP.

anything that is supposed to "curb" piracy, i think it does more harm than good. it just annoys so much.
how many people after searching movie titles and stuff with their problem, are just gonna try to get the movie in a hq format so they can play it properly?
Never there but always going back

PS3 is really a horrible blu ray player. No zoom, or crop out the stupid black bars option. Last blue ray I had here I couldn't even watch it. Blu rays are overrated garbage. Don't be a tool for this crooked despicable industry.
