Blu Ray drive not being Detected, not a lens issue!
Did you swap the drive boards?
Did you make sure ALL the ribbon cables were plugged into the board? I had that same problem with my slim so i took it apart and there was a hidden ribbon cable under the Blu-Ray drive.
I reseated the ribbon cables 3 times. Should be fine. What are the drive boards? Explain how I can identify it.
It's the board on the bottom of you'r disc drive that the ribbon cables go into. The boards are married to the console they're from so you have to swap them.
Alright I will give this a try after work. Do you think it will matter if these PS3's are slightly different? I believe they were purchased with different size hard drives and when I disassembled both, the layout of the hardware was slightly different.
It should be ok if you swapped them and they had the same connectors on booth of them, the newer fats had a different style of drive than the old ones I can't remember but I think they hook up different.
ok cool. thanks for the advice. Ill give an update when i try this tonight or tomorrow.
Soo tonight I took a look at the PS3's. The BluRay drive is connecting directly to the mother board... soo what i did instead is i decided to take apart the PS3 with the YLOD and heat start it. After doing this i put it back together, turned it on, and it worked!! Except for 2 things.. I forgot to put back the internal battery on the Mother board and also the tab on the motherboard where you put the BluRay ribbon cable had broke and fell off. So now I have 2 working PS3's without a BluRay player. Ugh.
So for my questions...
If the tab is broken, can i still properly seat the ribbon cable in there? (maybe by holding it down with tape or something?)
On the other PS3, do you have any more suggestions on how to trouble shoot the PS3's not recognizing the BluRay player? (keep in mind it does have power, i can input and extract discs from it)
The board I'm talking about looks like it's part of the drive but it's just in place with the ribbon cables and a few screws. You can try using tape just get it in place as good as you can and hope for the best. If the one that the drive just wont work is on >3.56 you can remarry the drive to it and that should fix it.
