Blu-ray drive help

I have a ps3 40 GB fat that failed a update at 68% and from what I've read means a blu-ray drive problem. Around other fourms I read a program that lets you custom firmware to leave out a update for a part of your ps3 and let it update successfully. Does anyone know this program?

After getting fed up I re-opened my ps3 and re-seated my ribbons and noticed the antenna for the wifi or bluetooth was unplugged. I plugged that back in and it updated like a charm.
