Black screen no video not HDMI related
Black screen no video not HDMI related –
What's up guys. I have a 40gb PS3 which has recently given me a black screen when I power it on. There is no video and no audio. The light remains green, but nothing happens. I've tried starting the ps3 with the HDD removed (didn't work). I am familiar with how to reset the video output (480i) by holding the power button (when turning on the ps3) and holding it till it beeps a 2nd time, then releasing it. I am also familiar with how to get to sony's hidden menu for repair. I do this by holding the power button down till the system turns on (green) and turns off again (red) then releasing my finger and pressing the power again till it beeps and then beeps twice quickly.
None of the above has worked for me. I've tried using different HDMI cables. I've tried a component cable and even the old composite cable. None of these cables have gotten my ps3 to turn on.
I'd really like to get this ps3 up and running as the firmware on there is 3.55 and i'm sure if i send it to Sony they would update it. Do you guys think that I should open her up and reflow like people do when they get the YLOD?
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I've searched the internet and have seen many YouTube videos. However no one seems to have this issue. Most people either switch from component to HDMI or vise versa and are able to fix it using the steps I've mentioned above.
I had the exact same problem a few months ago....
Here is what i did.
Remove all the cables from the console power cable,HDMI,ethernet (if ther is any),usb etc etc....
leave the console like that for 5 min and then connect everything back.
push the power button and try to go straight to recovery menu (dont try to see if you have video you propably not). (i know that now it doesnt work but it should work if do what i said)
Try to use rebuild database and it will tell you that your hdd is bad (thats what it told me).
The only option that worked for me was to re-install the CFW after the install finished it gave me a message to repair the hdd,the console repaired the hdd by it self and everything is fine now....
i hope this help you too...
Thank you kindly for the advise. I will try this tonight and report back.

I'm positive that this is one of the reason right here why i started to have the GLOD. I bought a RYOBI heat gun and set it to 500 degrees. I pretty much just heated up the both the CPU and RSX as well as some other chips on the board. I let it cool down, then I bent the metal heat clamps that hold the heat sink in place (so that they apply more pressure to the chips). Closed her up and powered her on. It worked on the 1st shot! Thank you all for your help. Hope this helps ya'll having similar issues.
