Hey guys I need your help, I turned on my ps3 after work yesterday to do a little gaming. Sadly my disc icon wouldn't come up so I took it apart to investigate it. I'm looking at it trying to work on bluray discs, but it just spins every now and then with the occasional read. But when I try a dvd the blue laser turns on for a second and then it just don't even try to attempt the read. I kinda think its the laser but I don't really want to spend the time and the money replacing it if that was not even the issue.

The only things I've tried so far are rebuilding the database and just tinkering with the bluray drive itself.

Here is a video of the process for a better description:

isopropyl alcohol from a chemist, use sparingly on a cotton stick, clean in circular motion lightly, use other end of stick to remove any excess moisture from the isopropyl

if you cant get isopropyl, get isopropanol instead, this should work too

    good luck

ps. i have resurrected many lasers cleaning them this way

I tried this, unfortunately no luck. Does this mean my laser is dead? or just the whole drive itself? id much rather just get a laser assembly then a whole new bluray drive.
