backing-up or cloning jailbroken ps3 internal hdd to a larger hdd
backing-up or cloning jailbroken ps3 internal hdd to a larger hdd –

I have searched high and low but cannot find the direct answer.
here's my situation, I got my jailbroken ps3 with only 40gb hdd, of course i want to upgrade to a much larger hdd.
will using the sony backup utility save all files like the gamez folder to the new hdd? or will it just copy other files like media and settings etc?
if so, then please just confirm so i can have a simple backup and restore procedure of installing a larger hdd.
if NOT, what do I have to do to clone or backup my gamez folder to the new hdd.
also, when using the backup utility, will this save the 3.41 firmware to the new hdd also? or will i need to have the 3.41 ready for install on another flash disk or external hdd?
I hope i'm making sense here. Thanks for the help in advance. woohoo!!!

Yes it will save the 3.41 firmware, that is not stored on your hdd. No need to worry about that.
Backup utility will only copy over your saves and game data. Not any of your gamez. You will have to transfer your gamez to an external hdd or to your PC using FTP, and then back again to your new hdd once its in your ps3. Bit of a hassle.

I'm confused, you are asking about whather your game folders will be backed up but then go on to say that you do not know how to use FTP? Well how did you populate your games folders with games then?
Anyway, to get FTP working you install the blackbox ftp server on the PS3 as a package and then envoke it so that it is running. You then use any FTP client on your mac/pc to transfer files accross to your PS3. Just connect to the IP address of the PS3 with blank user and password.

i got the saved games by just backing them up on my internal hdd from the bluray game discs with backup manager v1. i'm talking about the gamez folder and backup manager, not the game data files installed from playing the games.

You only need to use FTP to upload a game if you don't own the actual disk
Otherwise, you would just rip it strait to the HDD.

It was my general understanding that the backup copies the entire disk, every thing on there, for use as a full backup. The "GAMEZ" folder included since it's under the LAUN1245 directory, thus classified by the PS3 as being LAUN12345's gamedata.
