Anything like X360Key for PS3?
Anything like X360Key for PS3? –
I own both the PS3 and 360 and there is something coming out soon call the X360Key which is a device that sits between the DVD drive and mobo that allows games to be back up to and played from an external USB HDD. Could there be anything like this for PS3 or is not possible?
We can already play games from external HDD.

@OP I doubt anything like the x360 key will be available for the PS3 anytime soon. Hell I don't believe it's even possible anymore due to Sony patching all the USB exploits for firmwares above 3.41. So your best bet is to use the search function and learn how to use an external HDD to play backups. The information is easily available on the forum and you can read through the Multiman topic for tips on how to do it as well considering MM allows backups to be played via external HDD.
So please use the search function.
EDIT: Here's a link to the search function in case you missed it : http://psx-scene.com/forums/search.php
X360Key just plugs in though and emulates the DVD drive and does not require any mods, MM requires JB?
Yes MM requires JB.

The PS3 does not allow you to connect any third party USB device with a firmware higher then 3.41. They have to be entirely endorsed by Sony. The only USB devices you can use on 3.55+ are things such as EXT HDD's. Everything else is blocked, even third party controllers. Unless they are supported by Sony.
So again I doubt it, best thing you can do is download MM, JB and be done with it.
Also for any further questions relating to MM, JBing, or CFWs, please search the forums.
I don't know where this information originated from, but this is not true at all. They only blocked some WIRELESS controllers and mostly only thing you need to do is to update it's firmware.

Actually they blocked most third party USB devices. I read alot about it.

Ok here's how the x360key works taken from this website : x360key - Play all your Xbox 360 games from any USB drive!
So basically it bridges between the SATA bus, DVD drive, and 360 motherboard. It uses a customized version of linux.
360key consists of 2 parts, a motherboard and a remote.
The motherboard connects to the SATA bus inside the Xbox 360, and sits between the drive and the Xbox 360 motherboard. x360key is a full-fledged computer system running embedded Linux. It is capable of many things such as
- Emulating the Xbox 360 DVD drive
- Reading USB hard drives and other USB media with various file systems
- Updating itself and other hardware from USB media
- Communicating with the remote and other external USB devices
- And a lot more! (embedded Web server and Wifi connectivity for example)
The remote is a simple yet stylish piece of hardware that features an OLED display and 3 buttons. It connects to the x360key motherboard via a high speed USB2 connection. It also has USB for connecting USB hard drives and other devices. The OLED and buttons are used to control various aspects of x360key. It is also used for browsing attached USB media devices and launching games.
So unless they can do the same thing on the PS3 I doubt it will be possible. It depends on exactly what the PS3 protects hardware wise.
So a short answer : No it probably won't be developed.
Long answer : It could possibly happen in the future. But it entirely depends on what the PS3 hardware protects and if you can make a "bridge" between the SATA bus, BD drive, and the motherboard. (or is it called a logic board? I'm not sure.)
You have to remember that the 360 and PS3 are made entirely different. They have had different exploits for their scene's so we don't really know if one solution on the 360 can be made for the PS3. It depends on numerous factors.
