As to leaving PS3 and heading to XBOX, no, that's not what I will do. But I would like to get a new xbox, but have no clue as to what I need to get in order to play homebrew and back up games on that console. Perhaps someone can break it down for us? Like for starters, if I go get a new console from wal-mart, what firmware do I need to get in order to be able to jailbreak--or whatever term they use?

Ill second that. Got a bit of spare money at the moment fancy a new toy so thinking of an xbox 360 just to mess around with black ops online a bit from time to time really.
also loving the ps3 with the latest multiman etc so of course wondering what exactly is the score with the xbox, back ups, online, homebrew etc etc.
Dont see why it has to be one or the other!
I know i should maybe ask google first lol but theres so much information, anyone fancy summing it up for us????
Well, if you call the "scene" owning a 360 and playing it, then I guess so yeah. I use my xb more then the ps3 anyway, MS where smart enough to allow owners to copy entire games to their HDD's instead of needing some kind of hack. If the "scene" is the use of homebrew like emu's etc, the ps3 is where it's at imho.
It depends on what you want really, and how much you're willing to spend
and what's bad about that? LOL
seriously now, where the 360 fails the ps3 wins (homebrew) and vice versa on backups... if the jtag hack was of a different nature - meaning it could be applied to way more consoles - then the 360 would easily replace the xbox/wii in terms of homebrew enabled consoles...
but IIRC there is still some limitation on jtag'ed consoles, something to do with cpu working freely without any hypervisor(s)? , can't really remember it now
In time, Fire will fade ... and only Dark will remain"There has only ever been one hack for the XBOX 360 (excluding DVD firmware mods - which is purely for game backups / piracy).
Try and list more than 1.
I'm not sure why people are saying the PS3 scene is dead - by the time I finish coding, it looks like everyone will have jumped ship (to what - I don't know)"
thats not true,
king kong 2006, patched 2006.
Jtag 2009, patched 2009
Both were capable of running unsigned code and I never followed the 360 scene and knew that. Also to say KK wasn't really released and developed properly well who cares it is public and does work.
The 360 scene? lol, I have a Jtag and apart from the awesomeness of running the latest games off a USB HDD, XBLA games, hacked Xbox original emulator files through FreeStyle Dash, it's very quiet. Before anyone mentions the emulators for the Jtag...screw that, I've been having more fun recently running old skool games on my hacked original Xbox like N64 etc than on the JTAG.
Both scenes are VERY quiet right now compared to what they could be...which is a shame.
As for the OP...kool, do as you wish NO ONE CARES.
do both mate 360s preowned are cheap
