8GB USB stick and PS3 fw3.55

I don't seem to be able to access my USB stick in PS3 with latest 3.55 firmware... I have formatted the USB stick with FAT32 file system, put an .avi and an .mp3 file on it and connected on one of the front USB connectors, but no reaction from the PS3... The LED just flashed once or two times very short and that was it... I don't find any USB stick icon on the XMB.

Could somebody help me with this?
