4.30CFW - Ermac or Rogero?
4.30CFW - Ermac or Rogero? –
03-07-2013,07:36 AM
Hello all
I've installed one of the first versions of Ermac, and it seems to be working fine (haven't played in a long time on my PS3, so I tested only older games).
What's better - Ermac or Rogero? and can I switch from Ermac to Rogero at ease?
Thanks

Rogero and yeah you can update to the latest right from Ermac using the XMB update. Here's the file
Rogero_CEX_4.30_v2.05.PUP

1. Ermac is a clone of Rogero, nothing improved that I know of.
2. Rogero's latest update was more recent than the Ermac's that I heard of.
3. Rogero seems better supported/more widely used so you will more likely be able to get help from people if you have a problem that is CFW specific.
4. Rogero CFW can be installed right over itself on the latest versions so if there is another update it will probably be the same.
4a. I don't think Ermac ever said it had that capability, so you will need to downgrade back to 3.55 and update to Rogero possibly
5. Probably more things I cant think of off the top of my head, I personally use Rogero 4.30 v 2.07 and it works great
Usually the question is Rogero or Rebug, as there are significant differences between the two and both are widely used and supported.

Because it's more stable, more reliable, easier to downgrade/uninstall has more features and doesn't have duplicate IPF on the XMB for no reason!

I respectfully disagree, both are equally stable, reliable, and downgrade/uninstall in the same exact way.
Rogero doesnt really have a duplicate of install packages on the xmb either. It added the install packages manager to the app/home when the proper install packages was not compatible. The install packages manager allows for install of pkgs in the PSN bubble format, and only takes up app/home when it is useless anyways. Then Rogero readded the install package item on the list for traditional install. Only one space is taken up, since app/home is reused.
Rebug does have many more features than Rogero primarily relating to its "toolbox" and debug type options (you can switch modes from normal retail to debug like environs, but its not the same as full DEX CFW) It also once gave the feature to get onto debug/dev PSN, "purchase" PSN games with fake credit card info for free, it may still do this I am not sure, but I heard it was shutdown.
However I personally have never found the need of any of the extra features. I can play all my games, unpatched, with no problems, install all homebrew, play all media (with showtime homebrew), access PSN, watch netflix, etc with Rogero. No need to switch modes like I see so many people understanding in Rebug.
If you want to toy around with options choose Rebug.
If you just want to game and have it work, choose Rogero.

It's all about personal preference in the end.
They are equally stable and reliable right now, but how many versions did it take Rogero to get to this stage? He's on v2.05 now, so 5 x v2.xx versions and there were another 5 x v1.xx versions before that (which couldn't be installed or change/swap the hdd unless you downgrade to 3.55 first and it used to brick ur ps3 if it wasn't dehashed), so around 10 versions. How many 4.xx CFW did Rebug release? 2 x 4.21 versions and 1 x 4.30 version. You can see the difference.
Moreover, it is much easier to downgrade Rebug 4.xx on a QA enabled machine, you just install 3.55 REX from XMB. Whereas you have to use the downgrader pup and dehash it to downgrade from Rogero whether QA is enabled or not. It is also easier to upgrade Rebug CFW whereas you have to uninstall or downgrade Rogero before you install higher CFW (such as MiralaTijera).
Regarding IPF, why did Rogero keep Toolbox when the Original IPF became compatible (actually it was always compatible but he only figured it out later)? Having both IPF and Toolbox confuses noob users who don't know about the history of Rogero's CFW.
One more thing about Rogero CFW is that you cannot check if QA is enabled or not on 4.xx CFW because the button combo doesn't work whereas you can always check if QA is enabled or not on Rebug because the button combo works even on 4.xx.
Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against Rogero, I respect him and all and he has my respect and gratitude for his work in the PS3 scene and I thank him for that, but those are all facts.

CECHL 500GB: OFW 2.50 > OFW 2.76 > OFW 3.41 w/ dongle > OFW 3.55 > 3.55 kmeaw > Rebug 4.30.1 > Rebug 4.30.2
