Anybody have any luck with 3D gaming on their jailbroken PS3s?

Just got my 3D TV setup (Samsung 58" Plasma), and figured since I'm waiting for my backordered BD Player, why not try some PS3 games that are supposed to work (3.41 can do 3D gaming. 3.50 is for MOVIES, not GAMES).

In the video options, the PS3 recognizes the TV is 3D (says so when going through the setup wizard).

Tried Motorstorm Pacific Rift, but it seems I need "3D Rift". Tried again with Wipeout HD, but the debug PKG update to 2.30 caused it to fail to load.
Working hard on UberCFW, incorporating NTFS, sub-free NetFlix and Blockbuster, PSN cheat system with built-in swearbot and MAC-spoofing, Adding MKV, RAM and BIK movie support, and Xbox360 emu*.

I think the actual 3D capability is in the 3.50 firmware itself.

You'd have to wait for a custom firmware or until we can jailbreak the 3.50 firmware itself to actually use 3D as far as I know.

Not according to what I've read. People have been playing Motorstorm in 3D since June.

Again, the 3.50 update added support for movies, but the game support was already there.

It looks like games and movies on the PS3 are handled in a less sophisticated way than the way 3D BD Players do it - using "SBS" mode or something similar, a lower-tech mode to achieve 3D results with less bandwidth. For movies, this means breaking out the alternating frames and blending them together in SBS mode, which is why the PS3 can do 3D movies at all - it's basically a parlor trick by Sony to make it work. Doing this for 3D Bluray material is probably a bit harder than doing it for games, because it has to deal with the higher-bandwidth data from the BD-ROM, and still manage to stitch the images together for the "fallback" 3D method. Video compression means that the PS3 STILL has to process every frame, coming at it twice as fast, even though it is probably sending only 30fps to the TV (which is why there are reports the 3D movies are choppy).

Games are easier... all it has to do is stitch alternating renders (for left and right) at whatever frame rate it can handle. The tech to do this has been around for over a decade (I have a couple of pair of wired PC 3D shutter glasses laying around here). From what I've seen, 3D TVs seem to be pretty robust at accepting various methods of 3D media.

Fair enough, I wasn't 100% sure whether it was games or movies included in one of the later updates. Come to think of it now I remember them releasing a patch for Ridge Racer 7 to enable 3D on there, and there was a 3D rift released on the store not so long ago as well (before 3.50).

I would say jump on the store and get the updates, but if you don't want to risk your account/console then don't bother. Maybe try Brewology for demos or updates if you haven't already that is!

Yeah, I might try and get 3D Rift. Wipeout HD didn't like the 2.30 debug update, though, and I haven't seen a 2.20 for my release.

Once I get my plasma wall-mounted, I'll be hooking up the Xbox 360 - there are several games that do 3D for that, too.

Wow.. I would have thought SOMEBODY on this board would have tried 3D gaming on the PS3... I'm not exactly an early adopter, the TVs have been out for a year now.

I'll have to mess around with some Xbox 360 games that can supposedly do 3D - I now have my consoles both hooked up to the plasma, with the TV mounted to the wall (wow, that was nerve-wracking, hoisting a 75lb, $1600+ TV up onto the wall!!). Unfortunately, Avatar is the obvious game to try 3D on the Xbox 360 - and it's not a very good game.

I have the chance to own a samsung 55C8700 3D and I just buy the 3D package available on the European store. I really enjoyed Stardust HD and Motorstorm, after Pain Wipeout and I find the 3D poorly done.

But the top is Black Ops Call of Duty which is native 3D, me when I start it asks me if I want to play in 3D, and I am 3.41

Sorry mate, not tried it on my JB console, but on my other I've been playing black ops in 3d and soon to be GT5 (yep, if its not delayed)

What I can say about it though is how stunning the COD campaign in 3d was (can be 3d online too).
For instance, during the prison break mission when you get the gatlin gun empty rounds are coming out the screen, shrapnel from explosions plooms out and in gun fire the enemies bullets feel like they are literally coming at you.
When you aim down sight the butt of the gun is out the screen and you feel like you are looking down through the site of the gun.

Another fantastic level was when you 'borrow' the enemy hind, the ****pit and levers etc feel like they have depth in the image, as well as trying to evade the enemy rockets. Then there is the section when you absail down and smash through the window or crawling through the vietnam swaps etc. Could go on, but for me it was well worth the purchase.

Motorstorm 3D rift is good, I liked being able to turn 3D off during motorstorm in the pause menu of a race - lets you actually see you know where your moneys gone!

Looking forward to GT5, Killzone 3 & motorstorm apocalypse for future 3D gaming.

For anyone interested, the TV is the Panasonic 50VT20.

Yeah, I should try out Black Ops... still messing around with the whole setup. Just got the Blu-ray player tonight, wife's watching Shrek in 3D (looks great), and I found out I could hack my TV, LOL. I need to hack it to access my media files on my NAS. DLNA doesn't work for crap; never worked from/to anything in any format - the NAS and my router both support DLNA servers, and of course the PCs do, but I haven't been able to access any of them to recognize any media files. The SamyGo project has extensions that can access my file shares over NFS or CIFS, which is more direct, and is, to me, a better solution anyway.

Thankfully, my right eye has recovered enough that I see 3D just fine. I couldn't read with that eye (like looking through wet glass still, after the radiation treatment), but at least I can enjoy the home theater.

Seems that JB and 3D do not play together.

If I boot RR7 from my HDD, it never asks to switch to 3D mode......boot it off the disk without JB enabled and I get asked and 3D works fine.

Really odd thing is, that with JB enabled, if you go to setup the screen in XMB it does detect a 3D TV, why it then fails to when the game boots bemuses me
