10 month old PS3 doesn't read discs anymore –
My BD doesn't read any disc at all.
I think it just doesn't spin. No icons in XMB neither.
I'm running CFW 3.41, if I send it to sat they will probably send me back another updated ps3
So the doubt is should I send it while it is under warranty or repair the lens/controller/player by myself?
I think it will cost you half of new ps3.
If the disc isn't spinning, it's probably just the spindle motor (or a bad flex cable, though that's rare). Even a worse case scenario would be a blu ray controller board. Both are easy issues to fix, though a new controller board requires a re-marry. No matter what, it's less than the $150 + shipping that Sony charges to fix it. How familiar are you with electronic repair?
Well, the thing is that the ps3 is still under warranty, so sending it to sony sat would be free of charges (probably mailing),
on the other hand it's almost for shure that they will send me another one (not mine, repaired)with OFW up to date. The worst scenario would be a ps3 higher than 3.55 from factory.
Spending 200€ more in the ps3 is just a no way for me.
Well, you can request that the unit you receive back has the same firmware you shipped it to them with. I would revert to OFW first though. The real problem is that if you have a phat backwards compatible they might send you a slim.
