I don't think there is an option for this. Have you tried? Is your USB port buster, or maybe you just don't have a USB storage device?
I was just thinking about making a psn pkg for each of the games that support it and putting them all on one DVD-R. I wondered if anyone had installed a pkg from a DVD on Multiman yet before I possibly waist a DVD-R.
This would actually be a feature request for CFW makers. Multiman doesn't really deal with pkg installation or management.
True, but it's going to be a long time before any CFW will be able to do anything like that. First CFW needs plugin support. Until a CFW can be installed without an exploit, that won't happen. It's coming, it'll just take a while to get there.
to answer your question
NO you cannot install package files from a DVD-R because you can only install them via a USB pen drive or USB hard drive or if you are on rebug then its both of the mentioned plus the ps3's HDD

it is quite possible to mount the pkg file to the *install package files* using multiman. you just need to open the pkg file in multiman and it will redirect you to the xmb. then the pkg will be in the *install package files" area (even if no storage was attached) this is kind of similar to the old multiman upgrading procedure (download and go back to xmb *install package files* and install).
